" Ever since I was a child, I've always observed people's faces. My first "completed" painting was a portrait. When I draw a face, it is two thirds imaginary. In the sense that I don't use a visual, a photo or a model during the act. I use my memory, my remaining perceptions and my observations in situ, it gives an intuitive portrait, sometimes very faithful!
What interests me is the anti-portrait, even my self-portraits are anti-portraits, avatars, fakes, imaginary fragments, like in anthropometric paintings.
In painting, the portrait must be a rigged perception, autonomous and anonymous with just the aura of the model.
The good portrait must blend into the face of humanity! "      Chris BERAET
